Why We Grow So Many of Our Own Plants

One question we are often asked is, “Do you grow all these plants yourselves?”

The answer is that we grow as many as we possibly can.

At The Plant Guy NI, we believe there is something special about nurturing a plant from its very beginning. Many of the plants available through our nursery start life as seed, cuttings, or rootstock right here in County Antrim. By propagating our own plants, we can carefully monitor their development, ensure their quality, and offer a wider range of varieties than would otherwise be possible.

Growing our own stock also gives us the freedom to experiment with plants that are not commonly found in local garden centres. Some varieties may not be produced on a large commercial scale, while others simply don’t fit into the mainstream ranges offered by larger retailers. For gardeners looking for something a little different, this opens up exciting possibilities.

Propagation is not always the quickest route. Some plants take months, and even years, before they are ready for sale. It requires patience, care, and a willingness to learn from both successes and failures. However, seeing a young plant mature and eventually find a home in someone’s garden makes the process incredibly rewarding.

As gardeners ourselves, we understand the excitement of discovering a new variety or finding the perfect plant for a difficult spot in the garden. That is why we are committed to continually expanding our range and introducing new and unusual plants alongside trusted garden favourites.
